Czech Ambassador Ivo Schwarz met prof. Otto Dov Kulka

On 31 October 2016 Ambassador Ivo Schwarz met in the Hebrew University prof. Otto Dov Kulka who belongs tu the most important Czech country men living in Israel.

Otto Dov Kulka is an Israeli historian, professor emeritus of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His primary areas of specialization are study of modern antisemitism from the early modern age until is manifestation under the National-Socialism regime as the „Final Solution“, Jewish thought in Europe – and Jews in European thought – from the sixteenth to the twentieth century, Jewish-Christian relations in modern Europe, the history of Jews in Germany and the study of Holocaust.

Prof. Kulka was born in 1933 in Halenkov in Czechoslovakia. His father Erich Schön was arrested by the Gestapo and in 1942 transported from a concentration camp in Germany to Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp. Otto Kulka and his mother were deproted in 1942 to the Theresienstadt Ghetto and from there in September 1943 to the „family camp“ in Auschwitz-Birkenau. His mother died in the Stutthof concentration camp at the beginning 1945. After the war, he and his father returned to Czechoslovakia. Prof. Kulka immigrated ti Israel in March 1949.
