Minister of Foreign Affairs Lubomír Zaorálek published following statement:

With great sadness we have received the news of the death of former Israel President Shimon Peres. Throughout his life he stood out as a really exceptional politician and indeed a statesman. Closely intertwined with the history of his country he incessantly worked first on creating Israel, then on its defense and eventually on forging a peaceful environment to live in.

This stage of his life will be forever tied to his legacy. Shimon Peres has become a symbol of relentless striving for peace between Israel and the Arab world and as such will be remembered and will serve as a memento that peace in Middle East is possible and we should not give up on path to it and that we should use reason to reach it.

We also cannot overlook the fact that he was one of the driving forces behind speedy renewal of diplomatic and other relations between Israel and then Czechoslovakia in 1990 and that he was a good friend of our country ever since.

Shimon Peres will be never forgotten. With that we would like to render our deepest condolences to the family and all the people of Israel.
