Festive unveiling of Václav Havel Square in Haifa

On 29 June 2015 a sign bearing the name of the former Czechoslovak President Václav Havel was unveiled at a square in the modern Neot Peres neighborhood in Haifa. Many Israeli cities have a square or a street named after T. G. Masaryk, who visited in 1927 as first statesman the Israeli communities in Palestine. Václav Havel visited the State of Israel in April 1990 as the first statesman of the former socialist countries and brought their anti-Israeli policy to an end. At that time he visited also Haifa that became nowadays the first city in the State of Isreal that named a public place after Václav Havel. On the festive event took part the major of Haifa Yona Yahav, Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic Daniel Herman and other distinguished guests.
