Opera The Emperor of Atlantis by V. Ullmann in honor of Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance Day

We are inviting you to an opera performance The Emperor of Atlantis by V. Ullmann organized on the ocasion of Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance Day which will be held on April 8, 2018 in Heichal Hatarbut Karmiel and April 12. 2018 in Tel Aviv Museum of Art. The event takes part in cooperation with Czech Embassy and Czech Centre Tel Aviv.

Victor Ullmann, a Silesia-born composer conductor and pianist (born in Teschen/Těšín), served as a conductor at the New German Theatre of Prague, a head  of the opera company in Aussig an der Elbe (Ústí nad Labem) or as a conductor in Schauspielhaus in Zürich. He worked with the department of music at Czechoslovak Radio, as well, he wrote as a critic for the Bohemia newspaper.  On 8 September 1942 he was deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp, where he completed the chamber opera The Emperor of Atlantis or The Refusal of Death (Der Kaiser von Atlantis oder Die Tod Verweigerung), with a libretto by Peter Kien. Victor Ulmann was murdered by Nazi in Auschwitz-Birkenau on October 17, 1944.
