THE WINGMEN

In April and May we are commemorating several significant dates and anniversaries. Starting tonight with Yom Hashoah, we pay tribute to the victims of the Holocaust. Next week we will remember the fallen soldiers who fought for the establishment and protection of the State of Israel, the independence of which we celebrate the following day. This year, we are also commemorating the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. All these events are closely related, as we can see in the new exhibition in our Gallery on the Fence, 23 Zeitlin, Tel Aviv.

The Wingmen by photographer Pavlina Schultz and Irena Kalhousova, author of the text, is not only a story of Czechoslovak pilots and air-force technicians. Life stories of these brave men would suffice for several books describing the events of the 20th century. One can hardly imagine all the adventures and hardships they encountered, endured, and overcame. Israel became the place where they settled and built new homes. While their paths differed significantly, most of them became very successful in their professions, helping to bolster Israel’s security, economy and science.

The exhibition is open daily till the end of May 2015.
