20 years of the CR in NATO

On 13 March, the Czech Embassy in Israel, the Czech Center of Tel Aviv and the Czech House of Jerusalem commemorated 20 years of the Czech Republic in NATO.

Membership in the North Atlantic Alliance confirmed the pro-Western orientation of our country and the integration of the Czech Republic into a family of democratic countries. At the same time, another of the fascinating chapters of the modern history of our state, which has its alive but sadly fallen heroes, has begun.

The reception organized on this occasion was preceded by the screening of the a documentary movie Warriors of the Western and Eastern Fronts - The RAF Diary, in which filmmakers captured the last living veterans of voluntary soldiers, officers, women fighting on the Western Front in the Battle of Britain and in the Middle East at Tobruk. It also shows unique shots from our troops' barracks on the Eastern Front in Buzuluk and D-Day landings in Normandy. These are the stories of people who, after 1939, did not surrender to Hitler's Germany. They went to the unknown to fight for their homeland.

On this occasion, the premises of the Czech House Jerusalem were filled with photographs showing the activities of Czech soldiers in Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan, Mali or Iceland. The Czech Republic's army has been involved in foreign military missions in various countries on several continents. Gradually, 14,000 men and women with Czech flags on their uniforms were replaced. The photos were made by photographers Jarmila Štuková and Tomáš Štěrba.
