The students of Masaryk Grammar school from Příbor spent a week full of unique experiences and got to know Israel together with their Israeli peers from The Branco Weiss High School from Tzur Hadassah. They travelled Israel from the south to the north and back, and saw many sights including the Chatzerim Air Base in Beer Sheva, the Bedouin Culture Museum, the Herzl Museum and the Old City of Jerusalem, they also bathed in the Dead Sea, admired the Bahai Gardens in Haifa, shopped at the Carmel market in Tel Aviv and much more.

In addition, the Czech high school students had a chance to see how Israeli families live and experienced a true Shabbat atmosphere in their homes.

The Czech part of the project will take place in 2020 in the same spirit.

The project is named after Joe Alon (1928-1973), an Israeli citizen whose fate was closely linked to the former Czechoslovakia, where he first managed to escape from the Nazis in 1939 and then returned to the country in 1949, to take a pilot course in Olomouc. Then he served as a pilot in the ranks of the Air Force and then in the diplomatic services of the newly established State of Israel. His daughter Rachel Alon-Margalit now leads this exchange program to honor his memory.
