Long Term Visa for Family purpose

This article brings information about lodging applications for long term visa for family purpose for a stay of over 90 days (up to 1 year).

Long Term Visas for Family purpose are required for citizens of the so-called third countries staying in the Czech Republic longer than 3 months.

When applying for this type of visa, kindly follow these steps:

1. Schedule an appointment: The processing of long term visas for family purpose is from 90 to 120 days. Make an appointment on time. Instructions on how to make an appointment are on our website.

Before coming to the Embassy please prepare your application with the following rules in mind:

  • Applications are submitted in person only.
  • Fingerprints are collected during the appointment and interview can be held with the applicant.
  • All supporting documents submitted must be originals or verified copies. 
  • All documents must not be older than 180 days with the exception of a passport, registry documents (birth certificate or marriage certificate), diplomas and similar documents and photo (if reflecting current appearance).
  • Foreign public documents must be legalized, i.e. equipped by an apostille or superlegalized.
  • All documents must be submitted in Czech language.
  • We kindly request that applicants also prepare a set of copies of all the requirements.
  • Incomplete applications are unacceptable - they will not be accepted for processing and will be returned to the applicant pursuant (§ 169h of Act on Residence of Foreign Nationals)
  • Processing time for long term family purpose visa is 90 to 120 days.
     

2.  Visit the Embassy on a given date and lodge the application presenting the following requirements:

  • application for a long term visa - completely filled out before coming to the Embassy with a ballpoint pen or on a typewriter. Please do not forget to sign the application on the 5th page and include your phone number, email address and postal service address for future communication 
     
  • two recent photographs
     
  • passport (you will submit the passport at the time of your appointment and it will be returned to you. You will resubmit your passport at the end of the application process for the issuance of the visa after the visa has been approved by the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic. 
     
  • biometric data (fingerprints)
     
  • document confirming the purpose of stay: Your relationship to a family member (spouse/registered partner, children, elderly parents) must be proved by an appropriate official document:
  • marriage certificate,
  • birth certificate (yours or of your children), etc.
  • any other official document certifying your relationship to relatives in the Czech Republic
     
  • document confirming accommodation: You can prove accommodation by for example accommodation agreement, rent agreement, property ownership proof (purchase agreement, land register extract), dormitory document or confirmation on providing accommodation by the owner of the apartment (signature must be verified by a notary); how to prove accommodation is referred to in detail on the website of the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic; you are required to arrange accommodation before arriving in the Czech Republic. 
     
  • document confirming sufficient financial resources: when applying for a long term visa, you need to prove that you possess sufficient financial means for your stay in the Czech Republic. You can fund your stay in the Czech Republic and prove it by one of the following options:
    a/ internationally recognized debit/credit card with your name on it with a validity during your stay in the Czech Republic and its copy + a corresponding bank account statement with your name on the statement; if your account number appears on your credit card make sure this number coresponds with your account number on your bank statement also
    b/ an original letter from the bank confirming the fact that you will be able to use your funds during your stay in the Czech Republic with the verified  translation into the Czech language + an original  internationally recognized debit/credit card on your name and its copy
    c/ another document confirming that you can use the financial funds during a stay in the Czech Republic (e.g. an original letter from the family member confirming the financial support during your stay in the Czech Republic signed by a person who will support you /notarized signature/ plus an original or his/her  bank account statement)
    d/ a financial guarantee of the Israeli or the Czech University which proves that the student’s stay in the Czech Republic will be secured by providing financial means amounting to the existential minimum for 1 month of the expected stay, or a document that all of the costs associated with his/her stay will be covered by the recipient organization + internationally recognized debit/credit card on your name;

    It is necessary to prove the availability of financial funds exceeding the minimum required amount, which is calculated as follows:
    fifteen (15) times the amount of the existential minimum (currently CZK 2,980 per month) for the first month of the stay, AND double (2) the amount of the existential minimum for every following month of the stay. For instance, the required minimum for a stay from January 1 till June 30 (6 months) is (1 x 15 x 2,980) + (5 x 2 x 2,980) = 44,700 + 29,800 = 74,500 CZK.

    A foreign national under 18 years proves the availability of half the amount. More detailed definition can be found on the website of the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic.
  • criminal record extract: The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tel Aviv, in accordance with par. 31(3)a of the Act No. 326/1999 Coll., on the Residence of Foreign nationals in the territory of the Czech Republic hereby requests that all applicants for a long term visa or residence permit, who will submit their applications at the Embassy in Tel Aviv submit Criminal History Background check issued by the State of Israel as well as Criminal History Background check from a country where they lived for 6 months or longer in the previous 3 years or an affidavit in case that country does not issue any such document.

    You have to submit an application to the Israel Police first. Under the Israeli law, the certificate is not given to the applicant but rather transferred to the official entity (in this case to the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tel Aviv). You must collect the certificate from our Embassy and get an Apostille on it issued by the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel in Jerusalem.

    In addition: Non-Israeli citizens: You need to submit a Criminal History Background from the country of your nationality. If you have lived in any other country besides Israel for 6 moons or longer in the previous 3 years, you are required to submit the Criminal History Background issued by that respective country as well.
     
  • visa application fee: Visa fee is 2500 CZK for a long-term visa for family purpose. The fee must be paid in cash in NIS when applying for visa. The visa fee may change on a monthly basis due to the current exchange rate. The updated list of visa fees is on the website.

3. After your visa is approved by the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic and you were contacted by the Embassy to come and pick it up, you must submit:

  • Travel medical insurance: When submitting a visa application, travel health isn’t required, but the applicant must provide proof of holding travel medical insurance before the visa is affixed to his travel document. The insurance must cover the entire period of the applicant´s stay in the Czech Republic as determined by the validity of the visa. Travel medical insurance must cover the cost of emergency medical care, including medical evacuation or, in the event of death, repatriation of remains to the country that has issued the applicant´s travel document or to the applicant´s country of residence. The insurance policy must not exclude coverage for injuries and damage caused by the applicant´s intentional acts, injuries and damage caused by the fault or contributory fault on the part of the applicant, and injuries and damage caused by the consumption of alcohol, narcotic and psychotropic substances by the applicant. The minimum coverage is EUR 60 000 per one insured event without any coinsurance or copayment.  Travel medical insurance in the scope of comprehensive healthcare as required by the Act on the Residence of Foreign Nationals may be concluded exclusively with Pojišťovna VZP, a. s., and may be purchased on-line:

  • IMPORTANT NOTICE
  • All visas must be approved by the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic prior to the Czech Embassy being able to issue the visa. No assurances regarding the issuance of visas can be given in advance. Therefore final travel plans or the purchase of non-refundable tickets should not be made until a visa has been issued.
  • The visa for a stay over 90 days is granted for a maximum length of 12 months.
  • While lodging the application, an interview with the applicant can be conducted. A written record of the interview can be a part of the application. A record will be written down in Czech language and will be signed by the applicant and the officer of the Consulate who will conduct the interview. In case you do not understand Czech you can bring an interpreter with you to translate the written record.
  • Family visas can only be issued by the same Embassy where the application for it was submitted. Hence, you cannot apply for a visa in Israel and pick it up in Europe or the Czech Republic. The Czech Embassy strongly recommends that applicants do not travel to the Czech Republic to begin their study programs without valid visas.
  • In case the visa has been refused, you have the right to appeal. The appeal should be addressed to the Department for Asylum and Migration Policy of the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic that made the decision about the application within 15 days after receiving the information about the refusal of the application.
