Czech and Slovak Film Days were launched in Tirana

On the occasion of the 100-the anniversary of the Czech-Slovak relations with Albania, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic H.E. Mr. Karel Urban and the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic H.E. Mr. Peter Spišiak jointly launched the Days of Czech and Slovak movies in Marubi Academy, Tirana. 

 

During his opening speech, the Czech Ambassador praised the 100 years of relations between the two countries which he qualified as excellent, and then introduced shortly to guests and friends of both countries the films from the Czech directors.

“Havel” brought the story of one of the most prominent figures in Czechoslovak history. The film focused on President Havel’s tumultuous personal life, which was dominated by the struggle for truth and the right cause, persecution, imprisonment, as well as love relationships.

“Kolya”, directed by Jan Sverak, was a movie about a middle-aged man who unexpectedly became the father of a Russian boy. The story began in 1988 as the Soviet block began to disintegrate. Kolya has won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language film.

From the Slovak cinema, “The Teacher” by Jan Hrejbejk and “The Auschwitz Report” directed by Peter Bebjak were screened.
