Minister Tomáš Petříček Visited Albania

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic visited Albania on Friday March 15, 2019. He was received by H.E. Mr. Edi Rama, Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, H.E. Mr. Gramoz Ruçi, Speaker of the Parliament, and held meeting with Mr. Gent Cakaj, Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs. Mr. Petříček also met leaders of the opposition and talked with representatives of Civil Society.  

Among main themes of discussions with Prime Minister Rama, Speaker Ruçi and Minister Cakaj were bilateral political and economic relations, political situation in Albania, integration process, situation in the region and co-operation of the Visegrad Group with Western Balkan Countries. „Integration of Western Balkan countries into EU is priority of the Czech Foreign Policy. Integration process is important for stability and prosperity of the whole region as well as the EU,“ said minister Petříček during his visit. Minister Cakaj thanked for the Czech support. „Our economic co-operation has a big potential. Only in the past year our trade volume has increased by 30%. We are interested in strengthening of co-operation mainly in agriculture, energy sector, transportation and engineering, "  the Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs added.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic as well as Czech Embassy in Tirana are engaged in supporting Czech companies. The aim is to aid their endeavors as well as to boost bilateral trade.

In 2019 the Czech side will fund two small local projects in Albania focused on support of tourism and agro - tourism potential of the country. One project will assist in the field of health care equipment of Mother Theresa Hospital in Tirana.

At the end of his visit the chief of Czech diplomacy met with leaders of opposition parties and representatives of civil society focused on integration and foreign relations.

Albania was the second country after North Macedonia, which was visited by minister Petříček during his trip to the region.
