Visit of President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic to Tirana

Mr. Milan Štěch, President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, was received during his official visit to Albania on February 20-22, 2018 by main representatives of Albania. He had meeting with Ilir Meta, President of the Republic of Albania, Edi Rama, Prime Mnister of Albania, and with his main counterpart Gramoz Ruçi, Speaker of the Parliament of Albania. The Delegation of Czech Senators met also Arben Ahmetaj, Minister of Finance and Economy; they were also briefed about investment opportunities in the region of second largest city Durrës. On the margins of the visit the Fifth Round of Czech-Albanian Working Group for Economic Co-operation took place; the Czech side was represented by Mr. Vladimír Bärtl, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade.  The Czech Confederation of Industry has signed Memorandum of Understanding with Union of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Albania.
 

The President of the Czech Senate Mr. Milan Štěch was accompanied by four Senators: Senator Zdeňka Hamousová, Senator Miroslav Nenutil, Senator František Bradáč and Senator Petr Holeček. Mrs. Eva Zažímalová, President of the Czech Academy of Sciences was also a member of the Delegation, during her stay she has met with representatives of the Academy of Sciences of Albania. 
During the second day of the official visit the President of the Czech Senate together with his Albanian counterpart opened Czech-Albanian Business Forum organized by the Czech Confederation of Industry.

Czech Delegation has stated its support for the EU enlargement. President Štěch said his country was willing to support Albania in its path towards EU membership, considering the positive developments in its efforts to fulfil the relevant criteria. The main theme of bilateral meeting was mainly economic co-operation in the fields of infrastructure, energy, tourism and agro-industry. The delegation also visited the second largest city of Durrës, where the Members of the Delegation were briefed about the investment and trade opportunities in the region.
