Ambassador visited Wakayama Prefecture

From 28th to 30th March 2022, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Japan visited Wakayama Prefecture, where he met with representatives of the prefecture and the city.

The Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Japan, Mr. Martin Tomčo, visited Wakayama Prefecture at the end of March, where he negotiated with the Governor of the Prefecture, Mr. Yoshinobu Nisaka, to further strengthen prefecture's cooperation with Czech entities. At the same time, he supported a panel presentation on Czech-Japanese relations, which is currently on view in Wakayama.

Another point of the Ambassador's program on his trip to the prefecture was a visit and negotiations to support scientific and student exchanges and their recovery after the pandemic with Wakayama Medical University. The Rector of the University, Mr. Kazuhisa Miyashita, appreciated the current cooperation with the 2nd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague, as well as the cooperation with the hospital in Motol and IKEM (Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine).

The Ambassador then also met with the Mayor of Wakayama City, Mr. Masahiro Obana, who, during a meeting with the Czech Ambassador, expressed the interest in strengthening tourism between the prefecture and the Czech Republic as a country with world-class architecture. The Ambassador recommended cooperation with the CzechTourism agency operating at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tokyo.
