Official visit of Czech Ambassador to Fukuoka prefecture

From 24th to 26th November 2019, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Japan visited Fukuoka city to meet with members of the Japan-Czech Association in Fukuoka and with the highest representatives of the city and prefecture. He also handed over the Moser Cup from Meiwa Corporation to the winner of the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament.

To the meeting and following reception with the Ambassador attended 30 members of the Association, who have been working almost for six decades to expand and deepen Japan-Czech relations in the field of mutual trade, culture, education, and sports. Many members of the Association have had the opportunity to study or have resided in the Czech Republic and to this day they maintain close contacts with Czech colleagues and working partners. The reception was preceded by a concert of classical music, during which pieces by Czech composers were also heard. Introductory greetings spoke long-term association chairman Mr. Kazumasa Tazoe, followed by a discussion of the history, activities of the association and plans for the next year, when the Czech Republic and Japan will commemorate 100 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

During his visit to Fukuoka, the Ambassador also met with the Vice-Rector of Kyushu University, Mr Masato Wakayama, with the Vice-Governor of Fukuoka Prefecture, Ms. Akie Omagari, and with the Chairman of the Chambers of Commerce of Fukuoka city, Mr. Kenichi Fujinaga. He also met with Mayor of Fukuoka Mr. Eiichi Nakamura and with Mr. Tomáš Bek, director of Bright Kids Garden, an international kindergarten located in Kokura in northeastern part of Fukuoka, where children learn Czech once a week as a special program. At the talks with Japanese officials were discussed, among other things, further cooperation in the field of education, exchange of foreign students and the possibility of establishing economic and trade relations between the Czech Republic and Fukuoka with regard to the developing start-up culture in the city.
