Prime Minister Andrej Babiš visited Japan on the occasion of the ceremony of enthronement of Emperor Naruhito

Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Mr. Andrej Babiš, and his spouse took part in the ceremony of enthronement of the Emperor of Japan Naruhito in the Tokyo Imperial Palace. They were also guests on two banquets hosted by the Imperial Couple and by Prime Minister Abe and his spouse respectively. Prime Minister Babiš took advantage of his visit to Japan to meet the highest political leaders of Japan as well as representatives of third countries.

Apart from the participation in the ceremony of enthronement, the visit of PM Babiš to Japan had another pinnacle - his meeting with Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Shinzo Abe. Both statesmen declared that relations between our countries have been developing successfully in all fields. Mr. Abe noted the cooperation of our parliament bodies and highlighted the recent visit of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Oshima, to Prague. His stay in the Czech Republic made on him excellent impression that he shared with Prime Minister Abe. Prime Minister Babiš reiterated his invitation of Prime Minister Abe to visit the Czech Republic. The year 2020, when we will jointly celebrate 100 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries, would be an excellent timing. Prime Minister Babiš also asked his counterpart to support the opening of a direct flight between Tokyo and Prague.

Prime Minister Babiš also met Deputy Prime Minister of Japan and Minister of Finance, Mr. Taro Aso. Mr. Aso visited the Czech Republic in 2009 as the then Prime Minister of Japan. Beside bilateral topics, the two statesmen discussed the present situation in the EU and in the Middle East, experience Japan has acquired from G7 and G20 summits, relations with USA and the regional state-of-play in East Asia.

A substantial part of the program of PM Babiš’s visit to Japan was dedicated to bilateral meetings with Deputy Prime Minister of Oman and Personal Representative of the Sultan. Mr. Sayyid al-Said, with the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Mr. Phuc, with the President of Germany, Mr. Steinmeier, and with the Prime Minister of Serbia, Ms. Brnabić.

During his stay in Japan, PM Babiš also met high representatives of Toyota Motor Company and discussed with them plans of development of the Kolín plant TPCA that will be under full control of Toyota from 2021. He also visited the headquarters of the NEC company, met representatives of the association of big Japanese companies, Keidanren, and was a guest at the lunch organized by FEC. He gave interviews to Nikkei Shimbun and to NHK TV.

PM Babiš also visited the historical capital of Japan, Kyoto, who has been a sister city of the Czech capital Prague for 22 years. He met the Mayor of Kyoto, Mr. Kadokawa, and discussed with him excellent relations between our countries and both cities and ways how to support the development of tourism.
