Mr. ambassador of the Czech Republic in Lithuania took part in the memorial ceremony of Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara.

On February 21, Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Lithuania took part in the memorial ceremony of Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara who saved thousands of lives of Jewish children during the second world war.

On invitation of Japanese ambassador to Lithuania, Mr. Toyoei Shigeeda, Czech envoy, Mr. Bohumil Mazánek, participated in the memorial ceremony bearing the title "Who was Chiune Sugihara". During the second world war, this Japanese diplomat helped to save, in collaboratioon with his Dutch colleague Jan Zwartendijk, thousands of Jewish children from the "transports of death" and saved thus their lives. Granting of the "Citizen of Tolerance Award" for year 2015 was also a part of the ceremony. This award is granted to personalities who are significantly involved in the struggle against xenophobia, racial intolerance and antisemitism.
