Czech-Japanese cooperation in Ishikawa and Toyama prefectures

Cooperation in science, business and culture was supported by the Czech Ambassador in talks with governors, mayors and prominent representatives of business and academies in the Ishikawa and Toyama prefectures on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Czech Republic and Japan.

At Kanazawa University, Ambassador got acquainted with the Advanced Research Center for Space Science and Technology, which has been successfully collaborating with Czech scientists and academies for years. Rector Mr. Koecu Yamazaki as well as local professors highly appreciate their results, which contribute to the prestige of Czech science in international comparison. The university is interested in further strengthening scientific and student exchanges. Among other things, these topics were also the subject of the meeting with the Governor of Ishikawa, Mr. Masanori Tanimoto, and the Mayor of Kanazawa, Mr. Yukiyoshi Yamano.

Toyama Prefecture Governor Mr. Takakazu Ishii outlined to the ambassador his intention to strengthen the production of the antiviral drug Avigan (Favipiravir), which has promising results in the treatment of Covid-19. It was developed by the local pharmaceutical company Fujifilm Toyama Chemical Co, which belongs to the Fujifilm Holdings group, and is being tested in the Czech Republic, among other places. Among the researchers involved in the research is Professor Emeritus of Toyama University, Mr. Kimiyasu Shiraki.

The Ambassador also appreciates the long-term cooperation in the field of glass industry in Toyama and supported the activities of Czech business entities there. At the Toyama Institute of Glass Art, where Czech professors of glass industry have been working continuously for 30 years, Ambassador got acquainted with the work of the Czech artist Mr. Jaroslav Šára, which is the ninth Czech pedagogue working at the institute. In the Toyama Glass Art Museum, which owns the largest collection of Czech glass in Japan, existing from 77 works by Czech glass artists, Ambassador visited Ivana Šrámková's exhibition "Beings" and presented a traveling panel presentation on 100th anniversary of the establishment of Czech-Japanese diplomatic relations, prepared by the Czech Embassy in Tokyo.

Accompanied by the mayor of Toyama, Mr. Masashi Mori, and the director of the museum, Mr. Ryoji Shibuya, he visited the Czech brewery KOBO Brew Pub, which is run by the Czech brewer Mr. Jiří Kotýnek, who is a successful apostle of Czech craft beer and Czech cuisine in Toyama Prefecture.
