Opening ceremony of the Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in the City of Sakai

The new Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Sakai was ceremonially opened on September 21, 2019. H.E. Mr. Martin Tomčo, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Japan, handed over the Honorary Consul’s Commission to the new Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Sakai, Mr. Kazumasa Kuzumura. The consular district of the Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Sakai consists of the regions of Kinki, Chugoku and Shikoku. The seat of the Honorary Consulate is in the premises of the Chamber of Commerce of Sakai.

A number of distinguished guests – members of parliament, regional politicians, general and honorary consuls, high representatives of the regional corporate community - participated in the opening ceremony. Among them Mr. Hajime Funada, Member of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the Association of Japan-Czech Friendship in the parliament, Mr. Jota Yamamoto, Representative of the Government of Japan for the region of Kansai, and Mr. Hideki Nagafuji, Mayor of the City of Sakai. Specialties of the Czech cuisine were served during the reception.

The Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic has been opened at the time of the upcoming commemorations of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Czech Republic and Japan. The task of the Consulate will be not only to provide consular assistance to citizens of the Czech Republic, but also to support and enhance, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tokyo, the development of relations between our countries in all fields in the assigned consular district.
