Ambassador handed over the Czech Cup to the winner of the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament

On 23 January 2022, the finals of the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament took place in the Tokyo hall of Ryogoku Kokugikan, whose winner became the sumo wrestler sekiwake Hisashi Mitakeumi. During the closing ceremony, the winner was awarded by a diploma and a Czech crystal hand-cut cup by Martin Tomčo, Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Japan.

According to a long tradition established in 1970, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Japan presents the winner of the Grand Sumo Tournament with a diploma and a hand-cut cup made of Czech crystal. Sumo wrestler Mitakeumi secured his third championship in his career with his victory over yokozuna wrestler Terunofuji. Congratulations to the winners of the January Grand Sumo Tournament!
