Concert on the occasion of the opening of the international music festival "Prague Spring 2022"

On 12 May 2022, a concert of classical music took place at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tokyo, featuring compositions by Czech and world composers performed by double bassist Mr. Jiří Rohan, pianist Ms. Hiroyo Watanabe and flutist Ms. Yuko Kawashima.

On the occasion of the opening of the 77th year of the world-famous Prague Spring Music Festival, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tokyo, together with the Czech Centre Tokyo, has prepared a separate classical music concert for Japanese audience.

The theme of this year's concert was the “Czech double bass school”. It featured compositions by František Simandl (1840-1912), Vojtěch Kuchynka (1871-1942) and František Černý (1861-1940) performed by double bassist Jiří Rohan in a trio with pianist Hiroyo Watanabe and flutist Yuko Kawashima.

Mr. Jiří Rohan studied at the Prague Conservatory and HAMU (Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague). During his career, he has collaborated with the Czech Philharmonic or Josef Suk and Josef Vlach among others. He co-founded the Czech Chamber Orchestra with Jana Vlachová. He is living in Japan since 2010 and, as an artist, he makes a significant contribution to the cultural exchange between Japan and the Czech Republic with his projects.

Classical music has always found its way to the hearts of Japanese audience. It is therefore not surprising that even this year the concert hall of the Embassy of the Czech Republic was completely filled with spectators who appreciated the flawless interpretation of selected compositions.
