The 26th Czech language contest

On 27 June 2020, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tokyo with a cooperation with Czech Centre Tokyo organized the 26th Czech language contest. The aim of this contest is to motivate the general Japanese public to study Czech language.

This year, thirteen contestants were registered in the contest. Firstly, each of them shortly introduced a topic which had been chosen by them, e.g. the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Czech Republic and Japan or a personality of Jan Amos Komensky, the father of modern education. Afterwards, contestants answered questions given them by members of a jury.

This year, the work of the jury was very hard as a knowledge of Czech language by all participants was an excellent level. There were not only students of Czech language of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies but also young people who studying Czech language as a hobby, e.g. at Czech Centre Tokyo.

All participants were awarded by valuable prizes given by Czech companies acting in Japan. The first prize winner obtained a certificate giving him the right to participate in the Summer School of Slavonic Studies in the Czech Republic in 2021.
