Meeting with the Rector of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Department of Czech Studies

On 18 October 2021, a meeting between Mr. Martin Tomčo, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Japan, took place at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) with Ms. Kayoko Hayashi, Rector of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the TUFS Department of Czech Studies.
 

In 2021, the Department of Czech Studies at TUFS celebrates 30 years since its founding. In connection with the commemoration of this important anniversary, the Department of Czech Studies has prepared a narrative Almanac. The content of the Almanac consists of contributions from graduates, current students and professors, including photographic documentation. Its ceremonial exposure took place during the meeting.

The solemn meeting was attended also by Mr. Jun Matsukuma, Vice-Rector for International Relations, prof. Taku Shinohara, Head of the Department of Czech Studies at TUFS, prof. Kumiko Kanazashi, and prof. Markéta Bruna Gebhartová and students of the Czech Studies. The Ambassador was accompanied by Ms. Monika Dobiášová, Consul of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Toyko.

During the meeting, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic appreciated the importance and influence that the Department of Czech Studies of TUFS had in the past and still has on the education of Japanese students. Over the past thirty years, the Department of Czech Studeis has educated a great number of students who are still active in various fields and involved in the development of our mutual relations. The Ambassador of the Czech Republic also mentioned the visit of Mr. Jaroslav Kubera, President of the Senate of the Czech Republic, to TUFS in June 2019 and his meeting with students of Czech Studies. He also mentionned the award of the Gratias agit 2021 which was given recently to Professor Daniela Ryugo, who also works at the Department of Czech Studies at TUFS.
