"SDG Robot Poet" - solemn unveiling within CZ PRES in Japan

On July 29, 2022, the "SDG Robot Poet" project was officially launched at the Bunkamura premises in Tokyo's Shibuya district on the occasion of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU. The robot made from recycled waste will, not only in Tokyo, appeal with Czech poems about humanism and sustainability.

The opening ceremony of the project was attended by Mrs. Vladimíra Hirsh, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tokyo, who greeted the audience on behalf of the Ambassador and emphasized the project's message within the framework of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU.

At the event, Mr. Lukáš Zícha, Consul of the Embassy, Mrs. Eva Takamine, Director of the Czech Centre Tokyo and the spiritual creator of the project, Mr. Nobuaki Okamoto, President of Yokohama Art University, as well as its students who designed and created Robota Poet, were present among other attendants. The robot, created from recycled waste, as well as the poems it contains, refer to the issues of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ecology and advancing digitization.

SDG Robot Poet is located in the Bunkamura premises just a few minutes from the famous Shibuya Scramble Crossing, where it will be available to visitors until August 28. It will then move to Tama Plaza Station, located on the border between Tokyo and Yokohama. After tossing a ¥100 coin, a capsule falls out for each visitor, which hides inside a Czech poem translated into Japanese and a few seeds of the Czech heart-shaped linden tree.

The project was created on the occasion of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union and was inspired, among other things, by last year's 100th anniversary of the use of the word "robot" in play R.U.R. of Czech writer Karel Čapek.
