Consul General Ivan Počuch met with the parliamentary assistant of premier Ford

The goal of another meeting with representatives of the new Ontario government was an introduction of the main objectives for the development of the direct cooperation between the Czech Republic and Ontario.

Parliamentary Assistant to Premier Doug Ford and a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario, Norman Miller met with Consul General Ivan Počuch to discuss further perspectives and opportunities for cooperation between the Czech Republic and the province of Ontario after the recently elected government of premier Doug Ford took office. The friendly and open dialogue concentrated mainly on areas of mutual interest where progress has been achieved while the previous Liberal government was in office. It especially concerned resolving the issue of a jointly financed project in the areas of research and development established on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding negotiated in 2017. Norman Miller affirmed interest in the further development and strengthening of the economy/trade dimension of mutual cooperation. He was pleased by the noticeable increase in trade between the CR and Ontario in 2017 since the CETA agreement’s interim implementation has commenced. On his inquiry, Ivan Počuch explained the current state of CETA ratification process in EU member states and the political climate in the EU in connection to the BREXIT negotiations and the migration situation in Europe. Consul General I. Počuch also introduced Norman Miller to the project of Czech economic and cultural diplomacy in the current and the upcoming year 2019. Mr. Miller pledged potential support in their implementation and expressed interest in cultural and academic events planned to commemorate events of the year 1989.
