Congratulations to Mrs. Vera Schiff

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette announced new appointments to the Order of Canada. Mrs. Vera Schiff who was born in Prague, received the Order of Canada for her illustrious career as an author, historian and public speaker who is nationally recognized for sharing her moving experiences of the Holocaust.
The Consulate General of the Czech Republic congratulated Mrs. Schiff and thanked her for her inner strength and willingness to share with the public the testimony of the crimes of the Nazi regime, her story of Holocaust survival, both through her books and lectures for students and teachers.
In his letter to Mrs. Vere Schiff, the Consul General of the Czech Republic in Toronto said: "Personal testimony about the darkest times in human history can help ensure that these horrific acts are not forgotten, while strengthening hope that education will ensure that a similar tragedy does not happen again."
