Ontario Minister of Research, Innovation and Science Reza Moridi visits Czech Republic

As a part of his working visit to Europe, Ontario Minister of Research, Innovation and Science Reza Moridi visited Prague from August 31 to September 1, 2017 where he held talks with Deputy Prime Minister Pavel Bělobrádek, Minister of Foreign Affairs Lubomír Zaorálek and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Pavel Očko, a Chairman of The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic.

Talks with Minister Lubomír Zaorálek (see more here) were a follow-up to the meeting of both ministers in March of 2017 in Toronto, in which they both agreed on a mutual interest in developing Ontario – Czech Republic relations in the area of support for science and innovation.  (Ontario) Minister Moridi was later received by Czech Deputy Prime Minister for the Science, Research and Innovation Pavel Bělobrádek where they further discussed the theme of Ontario – Czech relations vis-à-vis science and innovation (see more here). Part of the visit included the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ontario Ministry of Research, Development and Science and The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic which Reza Moridi signed together with the Chairman of the Agency, Petr Očko.

Besides the political talks, Minister Moridi also visited selected research institutes and institutions: Nuclear Research Centre Řež, Biotechnology and Biomedicine Center of the Academy of Sciences
and Charles University BIOCEV, ELI Research Centre, and Czech Technical University ČVUT, including Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics. Ontario as an economic powerhouse in Canada has at its disposal a highly developed system of research and development, a number of universities (including, for example, the University of Toronto, which regularly places among the best 25 universities in the world) and other research institutions. For Czech businesses, Ontario can serve as a gateway to the entire North American market. For Czech universities and research institutions, they can take advantage of prospects for cooperation with top institutions in Ontario.
