Significant Mongolian geologist prof. Ochir received the Jan Masaryk Medal

On July 21, 2021, we welcomed to the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ulaanbaatar prof. Gerel Ochir, a prominent Mongolian geologist who was awarded the Jan Masaryk Medal by the Ambassador on the occasion of her 80th birthday. He appreciated the long-standing support for the development of Czech-Mongolian relations and the lifelong work of Professor Ochr in the field of geology.
 

Professor Ochir never forgot her university studies in Prague, she took part in a number of important expeditions and significantly contributed to the cooperation between the Czech Republic and Mongolia in the field of geology. It has educated a whole constellation of first-class geologists, and has been and still is a key partner in all Czech major geological projects and research. She continues to cooperate with the Faculty of Science of Charles University and the Czech Geological Survey, and thanks to it, Mongolian students of the emerging geological generation are still studying in Prague today. Scientific work of prof. Ochir is documented by a respectable list of publications, based on her lifelong pedagogical activities and admirable knowledge of Mongolian granites and metallogenesis.

The commemorative medal, which bears the name of Jan Masaryk, is awarded by Czech ambassadors to foreign personalities for spreading the good name of the Czech Republic in the world. Ambassador Brodský during the handover, which was also attended by students of prof. Ochir, in conclusion said: "I am convinced that you, dear professor, are a person who deserves this award for your life's work and for your warm and positive relationship with the Czech Republic."
