Director of the Czech Development Agency visiting Mongolia

On 5 - 14 June 2018, Director of the Czech Development Agency Mr. Pavel Frelich paid a working visit in Mongolia to monitor projects in connection with the end of the Development Cooperation Program for Mongolia in 2011-2017.
 

The meetings of the Director of the Czech Development Agency (CzDA) were focused on two projects, those implemented in Mongolia with the funding from the Government of the Czech Republic through the Czech Development Cooperation Agency under its Foreign Development Cooperation Program, which will be completed this year, namely "Transfer of know-how in the approach to eliminating environmental burdens – 2nd phase" and “Development of forests and the gene pool of local forest tree ecotypes n Mongolia”, which is realized in the Sharyngol area for the fourth year by experts from the Czech Institute for Forest Management (ÚHÚL).

Director Frelich met with representatives of the Mongolian Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry and the Ministry of the Environment and Tourism to evaluate the past development projects implemented by Czech entities in the field of hydrogeology, water resources management, livestock identification, development of artificial insemination system to increase livestock performance, as well as, in the field of agricultural apprenticeship education. He also visited three universities: the Mongolian University of Life Science, the Mongolian University of Science and Technology and the School of Agroecology, Mongolian University of Life Sciences in Darkhan, which involved in the Czech development projects.

In Darkhan, the second largest city in Mongolia, the delegation of Czech Development Agency, with the participation of the Czech Ambassador, met with Mr. Erdenebat, the Chairman of the Citizens’ Representative Khural of Darkhan-Uul Aimag, concerning on Czech forestry project and visited to the National Complex for Animal Gene-Bank.

The next point of the CRA Director's program was a visit to the No. 3 Power Station in Ulaanbaatar, where modernization of the coal handling workshop was implemented thanks to Czech development aid, and Power Plant No. 4, where Czech company Bohemia Muller s.r.o modernized the control room and the equipment for measuring and regulating the chemical water treatment plant. This project has a concrete commercial continuity in form of a service contract, which was signed by Mr. Miroslav Polák, a representative of Bohemia Muller, on the occasion of the visit.

At the end of the visit, negotiations were held with the Head of the European Union Delegation, the Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, representatives of the UN and FAO agencies on multilateral projects that could use Czech know-how on Mongolian forestry, water supply, environmental protection, production and supply of energy and minerals and mining.

Aside from this, the Director of the CRA has also used his visits to meet with Mongolian partners who, in cooperation with Czech companies, apply for support under the B2B program.
