Handover ceremony for the winners of the Lidice Art Exhibition

On November 20 2017 Oldřich Zajíček, Deputy Head of Mission handed over the „Honorable Mention“ to mongolian participants of the 45th International children's art exhibition LIDICE. After the ceremony followed the screening of the czech film "Želary" by Ondrej Trojan.

Mr. Oldřich Zajíček before the handover shortly mentioned the historical events of the Second World War, when after the successful assassination of the Reich Protector of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, Reinhard Heydrych, which was carried out by Czech paratroopers in May 1942, on June 10, 1942, a brutal retaliation of the Nazis the village of Lidice, all men aged above 15 years old were shot, women and children were sent to the extermination concentration camp and a the smallest children were sent to Germany for re-education. More than 360 people have died in this small village.

This International children´s art exhibition is not only for the memory of  the children victims from the Czech village of Lidice but for all innocent murdered children in various wars in all over the world.

From Mongolia, 81 works of art on topic "Travel" were sent to the Czech Republic in 2017, and it is gratifying that, as in previous years, they have succeeded in tens of thousands of pictures sent from around the world. The authors of two images from Mongolia, seven-year-old Luvson Engony Batchimeg and sixteen-year-old Batturijn Khuslen received Honorable Mentions from the Jury of the Art Exhibition.

After the award ceremony and small refreshment, there was a screening of the Czech film "Želary"  from 2003 by director Ondřej Trojan, which followed on the issue of World War II, when the main heroine was the czech girl Eliška who could not study medicine because on November 17, 1939 German occupiers closed czech universities. So the story recalled the horrors of war.

As the Deputy Head of Mission mentioned before, on 17 November 2017 the citizens of the Czech Republic celebrated not only the 88th anniversary of the violent closure of czech universities, but also the 28th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution in the Czech Republic, which is also celebrated as an International Student Day.
