Opening of an exhibition about Czech puppetry in Ulaanbaatar

On March 21, 2018, a unique exhibition of collections of books and posters about Czech and Mongolian puppetry was inaugurated in the Central Children's Library in Ulaanbaatar.

The organizer of the exhibition was a Mongolian puppeteer Mr. Altan Ochir-Byaruuzana, a graduate of the Theater Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague majoring in Puppeteer and Puppetry. He is the one of the most active Mongolian graduates of Czech universities and technical schools still speaks fluent Czech, and in 2012 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic awarded him with the prestigious Gratias Agit Prize for his support of Czech culture, recognizing it as a significant contribution to the development of Czech-Mongolian relations. Mr. Altan-Ochir is Puppetry Director of Mongolian Puppet Theater and Executive Director of the Society of Alumni of Czech and Slovak Universities and Schools.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ulaanbaatar, headed by Ambassador Jiří Brodský, who in his opening speech remembered the history of puppetry in the Czech Republic, congratulated Mr. Altan-Ochir on the 70th anniversary of the Mongolian Puppet Theater and thanked for the long-term support of the development of Czech-Mongolian relations and that the exhibition is also dedicated to commemorating the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Independent Czechoslovakia. Mr. Altan-Ochir invited important guests from the Ministry of Culture, as well as, his fellow artists and acquaintances who have been accompanying him for a long time in his professional career. The event was accompanied by the performance of the Mongolian Conservatory pupils, who soon joined with their teacher in the International Kocian violin Competition in the Czech Republic.

We strongly recommend taking a look at the exhibition. It is open until Sunday, March 25, daily at 10-16 o’clock.
