Czech films will be presented in Ulaanbaatar again

Date: 05 September 2020 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Venue: UB Ensemble, Beijing street, Ulaanbaatar

As part of cultural events commemorating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Czech Republic and Mongolia, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ulaanbaatar is launching an autumn screening of Czech films in Ulaanbaatar.

In October we will commemorate the 100th birthday of the great Czech actor Rudolf Hrušínský, in November we will screen The Valley of the Bees by director František Vláčil and in December the film Alois Nebel, awarded in 2011 by three Czech Lions.

On Saturday, September 5, at 4 pm, we cordially invite you to the screening of Daisies by the legendary Czech New Wave director Věra Chytilová (1929 - 2014), which will take place at the UB Ensemble. The film will be screened in the Czech with Mongolian subtitles.

Věra Chytilová is a holder of the Medal of Merit, the Czech Lion for many years of artistic contribution to Czech film, the Crystal Globe of the Karlovy Vary IFF for outstanding artistic contribution to world cinematography and the French distinction of the Order of Arts and Literature.

Film description:

A provocatively moralizing grotesque about two girls who decided to be spoiled because the world around them is like that. A sophisticatedly unusual form of narration, caustic irony and ideas abounding in images that many moralists considered scandalous characterizes Věra Chytilová’s second feature film. Daisies in their time became subject to parliamentary questions, later in the time of normalization a deterrent example of decadent creation and a carefully guarded safe title. Today, this experimental film is one of the Czech film classics, to which new generations of viewers around the world are returning.
