On 7 July 2022, on the occasion of its Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Czechia organized a virtual side-event entitled “Youth as the driving force for change after Covid-19: Conference on the Future of Europe and other participatory methods“. The event was an opportunity to discuss means of youth engagement in sustainable recovery and political decision-making processes.
Two panel discussions held during the side-event introduced different means of youth participation, including a unique project of the Conference on the Future of Europe. The government officials from the field of youth policy and the youth representative themselves had an opportunity to share experience on participatory processes and the ways to promote “youth voices“ in local, regional and national policies. The side-event was inspired by the implementation of the SDG targets 4.7 and 16.7. It was opened by H.E. Mr. Ivan Bartoš, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development of the Czech Republic, and H.E. Ms. Dubravka Šuica, European Commissioner for Democracy and Demography. Representatives of the OECD, government youth agencies from Romania, Estonia and Georgia as well as representatives of youth from Czechia, Uganda and ASEAN contributed to the discussions. The side event was closed by the remarks of Professor Bernard Reber (Science Po).
