Delegation of the Czech Republic took part in the general debate of UN GA

Czech delegation led by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš took part in general debate of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. During their week-long stay in the United States (September 23rd to 27th), the delegation also visited Boston and Albany. Prime Minister Babiš was accompanied by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Karel Havlíček, Minister of the Environment, Richard Brabec, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tomáš Petříček.

Prime Minister Babiš spoke at the UN General Assembly during the general debate on Wednesday, September 25th, where he introduced the Czech Republic as one of the safest and economically most stable countries in the world. His speech is available at the government’s website. Czech delegation also took part in the UN Climate Change Summit and the UN Sustainable Development Summit, where the Prime Minister spoke during the Partnership for Sustainable Development Dialogue, where he emphasized that the Czech Republic is in the seventh place in implementing the 2030 Agenda goals.

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, together with his wife Monika, participated in the reception organized by the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, at the occasion of the commencement of the seventy-fourth UN General Assembly session. Prime Minister further took part in many bilateral meetings. He met with the Ukranian President Volodomyr Zelensky, Turkish President Recep Erdogan, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan among others. Prime Minister Babiš also met with the U.S. Special Representative for Syria Engagement and the Special Envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIL, James Jeffrey, Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Walid Muallem, and the UN Secretary General António Guterres.

As a part of his program in New York outside of the UN, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš spoke at the Bloomberg Global Business Forum, at the breakfast with U.S. investors ACEBA and he also met with Czech startup community at the CzechAccelerator program. He also paid his respects to the Czech-origin victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks at the National September 11 Memorial towards the end of his visit.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Tomáš Petříček, during his visit to New York among other activities met with Foreign Ministers of the Visegrad Group, took part in informal meeting of the EU Foreign Ministers (so-called Transatlantic Dinner) organized by the Secretary of State of the United States of America, Michael Pompeo, participated in the SDG Summit and the high-level meeting on Syria. He also bilaterally met with many representatives of variety of countries.
