Intergovernmental consultations within this year´s Agenda 2030 alignment process have started

First session of this year’s Agenda 2030 alignment process with intergovernmental UN agencies took place on March 18, 2019. The meeting was chaired by the Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the United Nations, Marie Chatardová, together with the Permanent Representative of Timor-Leste, Maria Helena Lopes De Jesus Pires.

President of the seventy-third UN General Assembly, María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, delivered the opening remarks and voiced her full support to the efforts of both co-facilitators and expressed hope for concrete results during this year’s alignment process, which is a part of the wider revitalization of the UN General Assembly. The efforts this year should be focused on solving the shortcomings in covering specific Agenda 2030 goals and possible duplications in the agendas of intergovernmental agencies of the UN. The session was widely attended by all UN member states. Discussion on issues prepared by the co-facilitators for this first session was joined by G77 and China, European Union, Mexico, Cape Verde, Cuba, Japan, Brazil and Salvador.
