The Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with NÚKIB, the CyberPeace Institute and Microsoft presented a compendium on “Protecting the Healthcare Sector from Cyber Harm”.

On Thursday the 28th of July a seminar entitled "Protecting the Healthcare Sector from Cyber Harm" was held on the side-lines of the third substantive meeting of the UN Open Group on the Stabilization of Cyberspace (OEWG) at the United Nations in New York. Czechia presented the results of a joint project between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Office for Cyber and Information Security (NÚKIB), the NGO CyberPeace Institute and Microsoft. The compendium draws on series of six workshops thematically focused on different aspects of protecting hospitals from cyber-attacks and presents recommendations on how to better protect the sector. This international project is an excellent example of cooperation between the governmental and non-governmental sectors in the field of cyber security.

The healthcare sector has recently become a very frequent target of malicious cyber activities. The sector's vulnerability was particularly evident during the pandemic when cyber criminals targeted the data of overwhelmed hospitals during the states of emergency. It has become necessary to work with international partners from different sectors to strengthen cyber security, so that the provision of adequate health care is ensured for everyone and at the moment of need.

Cyberattacks on the healthcare sector are essentially attacks against people and their rights. For this reason the Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes the publication of the compendium is an important contribution to the discussion on responsible State behaviour in cyberspace. At the same time, the project demonstrates the active role that Czechia is playing in international-political negotiations on cyber security.
