Call for Applications: Jiří Dienstbier & Václav Havel Journalism Fellowships 2020-21

RFE/RL is pleased to accept applications for the 2020 - 2021 Jiří Dienstbier Journalism Fellowship and the Václav Havel Journalism Fellowship.

Jiří Dienstbier Journalism Fellowship 2020/21

The purpose of the Fellowship is to help aspiring journalists from the Western Balkans pursue their profession in support of media pluralism and independence. It is inspired by Jiří Dienstbier Sr.’s contributions to journalism, foreign policy, and human rights. It aims to further RFE/RL’s legacy of promoting more just and open societies through journalism.

The Fellowship accepts applications from journalists in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia.

Václav Havel Journalism Fellowship 2020/21

The purpose of the Fellowship is to support aspiring journalists from countries lacking media freedom and independence to pursue their profession in support of pluralism. It is inspired by former Czech President Václav Havel's belief in the transformational role of journalism in challenging tyranny and oppression. The Fellowship aims to strengthen media independence in Eastern Partnership countries and the Russian Federation. It is generously supported by the Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation VIZE97.

The Fellowship accepts applications from journalists in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, and the Russian Federation. Fellows are assigned for the term of the Fellowship to one of those language services.

The Fellowships are joint initiatives of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
