Minister of Foreign Affairs

Tomáš Petříček was appointed the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic on Tuesday, October 16, 2018. He became the 14th head of the Czech diplomatic service.

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and Minister of Interior Jan Hamáček were present at the ceremony of taking the office of the Czech MFA. “I am going to work on our firm position in the EU and the broad Transatlantic Area. It is the cornerstone of our security,” emphasized the newly appointed Minister Petříček. “Among my priorities is to develop the relations with our neighbors, particularly with Germany as our strategic partner, where I'm also heading to for my first official visit abroad,” added Minister Petříček.

Tomáš Petříček succeeds Jan Hamáček, 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, who served as acting Foreign Minister since June, 2018.
