Everyone living in the 50 states, District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories (Puerto Rico, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands) is required by law to be counted in the US Census 2020.

Thus, the census will include all persons who have a “usual residence” (the place where a person lives and sleeps most of the time) in the United States, without regard to a person’s legal status or citizenship. Only foreign citizens who are visiting the United States on vacation or business on April 1 should not be counted.
