Breaking the Mold - Women, Science, and the Silver Screen

Date: 20 March 2019 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM, Venue: EU Delegation

Marie Dvořáková's film "Who's Who in Mycology" won the Student Academy Award for narrative fiction—but its impact went far beyond that. Inspired by the Czech Republic's respected history in mycological studies and filmed in collaboration with top scientific institutions, the 15-minute short gave new voice to the sciences and opened new doors for female European filmmakers, both of which are greatly underrepresented in today's cinematic world.

This evening will feature the Washington premiere of Dvořáková's masterpiece and a lively discussion on the European Union's policy agendas on gender and the sciences, and their intersection with the movie industry.

This event is in collaboration with the Embassy of the Czech Republic.
