(Jak utopit Dr. Mráčka aneb Konec vodníků v Čechách)

In the film, water sprites can turn into fish and travel through the plumbing. Mr. Wassermann (Miloš Kopecký), who uses his wife’s family as his servants, leads the group. They determine that the only way to stop the demolition of their beloved home is to drown Dr. Mráček (Jaromír Hanzlík). When Dr. Mráček falls in love with Jana (Libuše Šafránková), niece of Wassermann, things get a bit complicated.

(1974, 96 min., Czech with English subtitles) as part of their ongoing film and beer series!

The comedy, shot in 1974 and directed by Václav Vorlíček, reflects the dark mood during the normalization period in the former Czechoslovakia.

Director Václav Vorlíček is one of the most famous Czech directors, with such films as The End of Agent W4C (1967), Three Nuts for Cinderella (1973), and the television series Arabela (1979-1981). In the making of the film, he worked with cameraman Vladimír Novotný, who used interesting angles and clever effects to create this ingenious work shot on a low budget.

Leading actors: Libuše Šafránková, Jaromír Hanzlík, František Filipovský, Miloš Kopecký, Vladimír Menšík, Zdeněk Řehoř, Stella Zázvorková
