Concert: European Intersections w/Lana Genc

Croatian pianist Lana Genc will perform the program European Intersections, featuring the music of Czech composers Smetana and Janáček, as well as other European masters such as Chopin, Beethoven, Bach, among others, at the Embassy of the Czech Republic on February 25, at 6 pm. Genc completed her postgraduate studies at Zagreb University and has toured throughout the world. The program is presented jointly by the Embassy of the Czech Republic and the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia.

Lana Genc
Biography:
Lana Genc finished her postgraduate studies at Zagreb Music Academy under the tutelage of famed Croatian pianist Lovro Pogorelich, after having graduated in 2001 in the class of Vladimir Krpan. She was awarded the Rector’s Prize in 2001. She also studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna under Rudolf Kehrer and David Lively. She has attended international master classes with Lazar Berman, Karl Heinz Kammerling, Viktor Merzhanov and many other renowned pianists and teachers. Between 2007 and 2010, she studied with Konstantin Bogino at the Academy of Santa Cecilia in Bergamo, Italy.
At the age of 17, Lana Genc traveled to Japan for her first recital tour, which led to later recitals in Japan. She performed at the Pablo Casals Hall in Tokyo and toured with the Japan Shinsei Symphonic Orchestra and the Prinzen Garten Philharmonic Orchestra, playing concertos of Rachmaninov and Mozart.
She has played recitals in Vienna (Bosendorfer - Saal), Cyprus, Bulgaria (European Festival of Classical Music of Classic FM Radio in Sofia), Holland, Russia, France, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. She toured Chile performing in 2005. She regularly gives recitals and chamber music performances all over her native Croatia. In Berlin, she played with the Croatian contemporary ensemble “Cantus Ansambl.” Ms. Genc has performed with many virtuoso musicians including violinist Aleksandar Milosev (at the Belgrade International BUNT Festival), cellist Dennis Shapovalov (PagART Festival), and flute and piccolo player Dani Bosnjak. She has also performed in Prague in Czech Museum of Music, as well as charity concerts in Kutná Hora, Liberec, Třeboň and Valeč.
She has performed with all major Croatian orchestras, including the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, Croatian Radiotelevision Symphony Orchestra, Croatian National Theatre “I. pl Zajc” Rijeka, and the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, and ensembles, as well as with the Slovenian string quartet “Tartini.”
In 1997, Genc recorded her first CD, from which the piece “Tonal Sonata,” by the Croatian contemporary composer Zeljko Brkanovic, won the prestigious discographic music award, The Porin. Critics praise her masterful and precise technique, beautiful sound and clarity of ideas.
