The Embassy of the Czech Republic presents the exhibition opening Art of Květa Pacovská, featuring original posters and graphics by the Czech illustrator and winner of the international Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration (1992) in recognition of her lasting contribution to children’s literature. During the opening, artist Květa Pacovská will talk about her work and years as an illustrator.
Květa Pacovská (1928) is a world-class illustrator, creating beautiful illustrations of over 60 books for over 60 years. She studied graphic art at the Prague School of Applied Arts. Her work merges the aesthetic traditions of children’s book illustrators with influences from modern artists, such as: Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, and Joan Miró. She draws, paints, and creates collages in which she experiments with the links between image and text. In addition to illustrating, Pacovská has held numerous one-woman shows and regularly takes part in international art exhibitions. For her exceptional work, she received the Hans Christian Andersen Medal for children’s book illustration in 1992. Some of her most recent books include: The Little Flower King (2007), The Sun Is Yellow (2012), Number Circus 1-10 and Back Again (2012).
