Exhibition Opening: Kateřina Vincourová: Arteria

Date: 27 January 2018 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Venue: AU Museum

American University Museum will open the exhibition "Kateřina Vincourová: Arteria" curated by Karina Kottová on January 27, 2018, from 6 to 9 pm. This exhibition focuses on the fragile nuances of interpersonal relations while at the same time abstracting these notions into an examination of time and space. Vincourová’s work thus becomes a holistic system; a large-scale spatial drawing rather than a collection of individual pieces.

Delicate and elegant sculptures, installations, and mixed media works by the Czech artist create sensitive tension with their latent meaning. The commoditized body and consumer articles play a major role in Vincourová’s practice, alongside the poetics of domesticity and ephemeral materials traditionally associated with the “feminine” world. Her work is made up of both monumental compositions and petite realizations, communicating strongly with the architecture of the exhibition space and the viewer’s body.

The personal is political for Vincourová, who intersects her minimalistic compositions with textiles or household objects, combining relics of specificity, privacy and emotion of the individual objects on one side with the ability to step back and observe the larger piece from a distance. It may seem that the larger picture outbids the detail. However, it is precisely the detail that matters the most in the artist’s work.
