Exhibition Opening & Talk: A Far Cry

Date: 24 January 2019 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Venue: Czech Embassy

Czech visual artist Roman Kameš will present the talk and exhibition opening "A Far Cry," paintings inspired by his time spent in the mountains of Ladakh – the western Himalayas, at the Embassy of the Czech Republic on January 24, 2019, at 6 pm.

The mountains, with the play of shadows on the faces of rocks, are like paintings themselves as the sun strikes them with ultraviolet rays bringing out surprising chromatic harmonies of emerald green, intense bright orange, golden yellow, and deep indigo. Each painting tells a story from these mountains. It is raining on the canvas of the Monsoon. The opaque surface of the painting seems impassable, until the eye spots a breach. A bit of Ladakh earth mixed with tempera, Quicksands, traps the adventurer and his footloose spirit. Join us for a lecture with the artist on these works inspired by the majestic mountains of the Himalayas.

About the Artist: Roman Kameš studied art at the prestigious Ecole des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA) in Paris. His paintings have been presented at exhibitions in the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Russia, Japan, and India. Every year since 1992, Kameš has spent time in the mountains of Ladakh painting, exhibiting and organizing painting workshops for children.
