Lions of Czech Film: Life is Life

Date: 10 February 2016 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM, Venue: Avalon Theater

"Life is Life" (Život je život) was a record-breaking box office hit in the Czech Republic for 2015. The comedy by director Milan Cieslar portrays an average Czech family tackling their day to day problems. Veteran actor Ondřej Vetchý plays the shy, middle-aged policeman František. As a father of three daughters, he wants to see them coupled with capable, successful men, but they have a knack for finding just the opposite. He tries to come to terms with their unfortunate choice of partners.  One of his daughters constantly tries to get pregnant. The second dates an exotic fool. The third doesn’t know the father of the baby she is expecting. All the while, František dreams of his own fantasy life as his hero, Agent 007.

František and his wife always spend their vacation at the local lake, although the wife dreams of the seaside. One day she meets a bohemian writer. Meanwhile, an attractive colleague with Spanish roots walks into František’s office and life starts sizzle. A James Bond style score performed by the Czech Symphony Orchestra accompanies several scenes throughout the film.

Directed by Milan Cieslar, 2015, 97 minutes, in Czech with English subtitles
