Classic Film: Mr. Ducháček Will Fix It

The Embassy of the Czech Republic presents a new line-up of Czech films featuring Czech comedies of the 20th century. The series highlights prominent directors such as Martin Frič and Václav Vorlíček. Bistro Bohem kicks off the series with Mr. Ducháček Will Fix It (Ducháček to zařídí). Directed by Karel Lamač, the film centers on a lawyer (Ladislav Hemmer) and a young aristocrat's daughter (Adina Mandlová) who fall in love. When the lawyer takes over the finances of the estate, he soon learns that the family is in over their heads in debt. Will he be able to save them before they lose everything? Meanwhile, the lawyer's meddling office manager (Vlasta Burian) humorously resolves every day dealings at the office. Will his meddling drive a wedge between the couple?

About the series:
This marks the fifth year of the film and beer series at Bistro Bohem. This year, the series focuses on Czech comedies from the 1930s-70s, with such prominent directors as Martin Frič and Václav Vorlíček. All films will screen in Czech with English subtitles. Each screening includes one free beer as well as an introduction by a representative from the Czech Embassy. All screenings are subject to change.
