Garage & Tony Ducháček

Date: 08 October 2019 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Venue: Czech Embassy

Underground legends of rock GARAGE & Tony Ducháček (Garáž) reunite for a special performance at the Embassy of the Czech Republic on Oct. 8, 2019, at 7 pm. Savor a cold brew while enjoying the riffs of this dissident rock band, browse an impromptu “garage” sale, and witness a band that defied a regime – embodying the statement “anyone can play whatever they want.” Jam with us as we gear up to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, paying tribute to FREEDOM. Na zdraví (cheers)!

ABOUT THE BAND:
In the 1980s under communism in the former Czechoslovakia, the band was a popular underground group, a symbol of total artistic and uncompromising freedom. The band supported and played for students during the Velvet Revolution in 1989 and continued to be popular among the youth even after the revolution. In the words of late Czech President Václav Havel, “If you would like to know the sound of the Velvet revolution, then you should attend the concert of the Garage band from Prague.”

After the Velvet Revolution and the reinstatement of democracy in 1989, Garáž (Garage) was finally able to officially record albums and put on concerts. It reached the peak of its popularity as the band toured extensively abroad for concerts throughout Western Europe and New York and played at major festivals in France, Switzerland, Austria and Belgium.

Today, Garage’s songs and music continue to be based on the personality of its charismatic leading singer Tony Ducháček, who joined the band in 1982 and is the author of all the lyrics founded on unique, direct, suburban slang with a lot of poetic imagination. Come jam with Garage & Tony Ducháček to the sounds of rock that inspired generations to rise up against totalitarianism thirty years ago.
