Explore the life of one of the most impressive kings in Europe through the lecture Charles IV: The Greatest Hero of Czech History by Professor Pavel Hošek, Th.D. The lecture will focus on the biographical, religious, social and cultural context of Charles IV's political career as Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia and also reveal his significant influences during his lifetime and the centuries to follow.

About the lecturer:

Pavel Hošek received his doctorate in theology from Charles University in Prague. From 1994-999, he was a lecturer of Hermeneutics and the Old Testament at the High School of Theology and Mission in Kolín, Czech Republic. He then served as chief editor of the Návrat domů publishing house in Prague.Since 2003, he has served as chair of Systematic Theology at the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Prague and reserach fellow and lecturer in Religious Studies in the Protestant Theological Faculty at Charles University. He has chaired the Religious Studies Deparment at Charles University since 2007. From 2010-2014, he has served as the deputy dean for development at Charles University. Additionally, he has taught a number of courses in the Protestant Theological Faculty of Charles University in Prague, including Religion and Human Rights, Islam: A Historical Introduction, Judaism: A Historical Introduction, Christianity and Other Religions, Religious Studies, Great Heroes of the Jewish Enlightenment, among many others. He has participated in many grant research projects from 2005-15, and authored numerous publications centering on religious themes. Additionally, he is vice chairman of the Academic Council of Church History and Religious Studies Department at Charles University, member of both the Academic Council of Philosophy Department and Academic Council of Jewish Studies at Charles University, vice president of the Czech Christian Academy, committee member of the Czech Council of Christians and Jews, to mention a few.
