Lecture: To Euro or Not to Euro

The Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences (SVU), in collaboration with the Embassy of the Czech Republic, presents the lecture TO EURO OR NOT TO EURO: The Czech Republic’s Dilemma, by leading Czech/American Economist Ondřej Schneider, Senior Economist at the Institute of International Finance in Washington, DC.

This is the first lecture in a series designed to meet young professionals.

Ondrej Schneider

Ondrej Schneider

Ondřej Schneider (1964) is a senior economist in the Emerging Europe Department of the Institute of International Finance (IIF). He covers his native Czech Republic, Poland, Russia and Ukraine. He is also an associate professor at the Institute of Economic Studies, Charles University in Prague.

Prior to joining the IIF, he was an adjunct associate professor at the Economics Department of Georgetown University, Washington, DC. In 2008, he was a research fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis in Washington, DC. Schneider lived in Prague until 2007, serving as an associate professor of Economics at Charles University, an adviser to the Czech Government (Ministries of Finance; Industry; and Social Affairs), and a consultant to the OECD and the World Bank. He was also a board member of the largest Czech energy producer, CEZ, and a board member of an investment boutique Warren Partners. In 1998-2002, he was the Chief Economist at Patria Finance, Prague-based investment bank.

Schneider received his Master degree in Economics from Cambridge University in 1993, and PhD. in Economics from the CERGE-EI in Prague in 1998. He has published a number of papers in professional journals in Europe and in the United States. His main research areas include fiscal policy and public finances, European economic integration and political economy.
