Lecture: Who was Jan Hus? - Myth, Memory, and Meaning

Date: 10 December 2015 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Venue: Czech Embassy

Medieval History Professor Thomas Fudge from the University of New England, will present the lecture "Who was Jan Hus? Myth, Memory and Meaning" at the Embassy of the Czech Republic on December 10, at 6 pm.

About the Lecture:
The poet Robert Pinsky once said that “deciding to remember and what to remember, is how we decide who we are.” Jan Hus was a Czech priest executed for heresy in 1415 during the Council of Constance. This lecture identifies the myths connected to Hus, it examines how Hus has been remembered and understood over the past 600 years (socially, religiously and politically), and suggests ways in which Hus might continue to be important in the twenty-first century. For more information about Professor Fudge, including his very impressive list of publications, see his c.v.at the University of New England (Australia) website here: https://www.une.edu.au/staff-profiles/humanities/tfudge.
