Millenium Stage: Hellwana in the USA

Date: 02 June 2019 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Venue: Kennedy Center Millennium Stage

Hellwana is Czech singer and rapper, influenced by grime, neosoul and R'n'B. In her lyrics, she talks about body positivity and advocates for young women.

Hellwana appeared on the Czech music scene in 2017 and made a statement of confidence with her first EP called Sunbeam influenced by Grime, R'n'B, Neo-Soul and Trap. In her lyrics, she pushes the message of body positivity and advocates for young women. Hellwana spent her childhood in England; therefore, English is her second mother tongue. She currently works mainly with her partner/producer and DJ Cyper Sound with whom she also performs.

Among others, she mentions Jorja Smith and Mz Brattas her favorite artists. Besides her music career, she also works as a commercial fashion model and studies product design.

In September 2018, Hellwana was voted the most promising progressive Czech act by an international jury composed mainly of radio experts in Czeching, a music export project of Czech Radio’s youth station Radio Wave. She released her second EP called Phases. In January, she took part in the Eurosonic Festival, one of the largest music festival in Europe, where she represented the Czech rap and neosoul scene.
